Day 4 bonus shots!
From time to time, we tried to take photos of each other at various points along the trip. Here are a couple from Dinosaur National Monument.

Megatrip: Day 4
Good morning!
Day 4 of the trip was another long day, filled with beautiful scenery.
Out There Photography got up early and, as promised, there's a shot of the lovely sunrise that greeted us. Moments like that make it worth getting up early!
We left Starvation Lake and headed east on Highway 40. We took a little side trip into Dinosaur National Monument, which was stunning, but as we had a lot of ground to cover that day, we didn't spend as much time there as we might have liked.
From Dinosaur, we continued east toward the Rocky Mountain front. We stopped off in Steamboat Springs, CO to resupply at a local grocery store, then headed up over Rabbit Ears Pass. Our plan had been to camp at one of the numerous campgrounds on the pass, but we discovered (to our dismay) that they had already been closed for the winter. Fortunately for us, we proceeded on and were rewarded with a moose sighting. He was a big, big guy, sleek and healthy from the summer's foraging.
Driving down the east side of the pass, headed toward Rocky Mountain National Park, we saw beautiful peaks and yellow aspens, lit up by the lowering sun.
On we drove, and happily, we were able to find a place to camp just outside Rocky Mountain National Park, and had gotten there in time to set up camp before dark and get some spectacular sunset shots.
At 8300 ft. above sea level, the air is thin and it gets mighty chilly as soon as the sun goes down, but our sleeping bags did the job and we had a peaceful night's sleep on the shores of the lake.

Megatrip: Day 3
Good evening!
There was a lot to see on Day 3 of the big trip, and we covered a lot of miles, therefore there are a lot of photos in today's post!
We woke to a fantastic sunrise in Great Basin National Park. After we had sufficient coffee and packed up our camp, we spent some time exploring the park before hitting the road. Great Basin N.P. is an incredibly beautiful place...it seems almost like an island of high-mountain wilderness in the middle of barren desert. Out There Photography highly recommends you check it out if you ever get the chance!
From Great Basin, we headed east on Hwy. 50 across Utah. The dry lake bed at Sevier Lake was really neat. We found a spot along the highway where we could stop and walk out onto the salt flat. It was blazing hot that day, and the sunlight bouncing off the white surface only intensified the heat...quite an experience!
We followed Hwy. 50 until it met up with I-15, and headed north on 15 up to Provo, where we once again headed east, through the town of Provo, up through Provo Canyon (spectacular!), and on to our campsite for the night at Starvation Lake State Park. Most of the photos of Starvation Lake were taken from our campsite...as you can see, it was a pretty great spot!
We spent a peaceful (but chilly!) night there, and woke to a beautiful sunrise the next morning...but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to see that :)

Megatrip: Day 2
Good morning, all!
Today's photos are from the second day of our trip. We left our campsite in Sheldon NWR and drove east, then south, keeping to smaller highways and avoiding the interstate.
Our final destination for the day was Great Basin National Park, but we found a lot of interesting stuff along the way.
The drive to Great Basin took us on US Hwy 50, which we later found out is often called "the loneliest highway in America"...and with good reason! There were miles and miles of nothing...just bare hills, stunted sagebrush, and the occasional abandoned farm. There really wasn't even any traffic...to tell the truth, it was more than a little unnerving. I don't think we realized there were still places that barren and empty left in the lower 48.
We survived the lonely highway, though, and managed to snag the very last campsite at Great Basin NP just before dark.

Megatrip: Day 1
Alright.
I know I said it was only going to be a couple more days, but you know how life happens and plans go out the window? Life happened.
Nevertheless, Out There Photography is finally going to start posting photos from our trip.
The photos here are from the very first day of our trip.
The plan is to post as often as possible over the next couple of weeks because...drum roll please...Out There Photography is moving!
No, we're not moving our website, we're actually moving. Our time here in Eugene is coming to an end. We're headed up to North Idaho to try our hand at a new life. We're very excited about the move, though we will miss everyone here in Eugene very much.
