From our campsite on the Deschutes River
Last week, we headed out to north-central Oregon to meet up with some friends and do a little camping. We took Hwy 126 from Eugene and headed over to Redmond, OR. From Redmond, we took Hwy 97 north past Madras, then took Hwy 197 off to the northwest. After passing through the little town of Maupin (a whitewater rafting mecca, apparently), we took the turnoff that led us to White River Falls State Park. There we met up with our friends, went for a swim, and relaxed after a long day of driving. As the sun started to think about setting, we started thinking about finding a place to camp for the night. We drove down the road a ways until we came to the Deschutes, and then moseyed along the east bank of the river. There are numerous little campgrounds along this stretch of the river, each with only three or four campsites. We managed to find an open spot, and set up our little camp. We cooked dinner, then enjoyed an evening of stories around the battery-powered lantern. (All fires are prohibited this time of year because of the forest fire danger...our little lantern didn't have the same feel as a campfire, but we made the best of it!)
Woke up early the next morning, before sunrise, and while we waited for the coffee to brew, got out the camera and took a few shots. Photography is really easy when you've got such beautiful subject matter :)
